Back again
The hiatus is over. Paisley has wrested his blog from the hyper-active hands of Salomé, so now she is starting her own own. Prepare for more fun to come.

National Anxiety Month 2
Now that you're all stirred up. Here are three movies to help put you to sleep. If these don't do it, go to see Arthur Ganson's dream machines in person at the Mebane Gallery, on the first floor of Goldsmith Hall at the University of Texas in Austin. (don't stress but hurry, the show closes on May 6th 2009).

Playing with Intense Heat
One can never have too many hand-made ornate cat food bowls. Or sushi platters. Or personalized gifts laying in wait for the Holidays. So don't you dare miss this fun and fascinating workshop given by the devine Ms. K.

Come learn from the Queen of Slumped Glass at her fabulous studio just outside of Austin. You'll learn basic glass fusing techniques, (and some not so basic tricks) and build and fuse several pieces to take home with you. There will also be the opportunity to order additional fusing supplies at wholesale prices.
When: Saturday, March 21st 10am - 4pm and March 22nd 10am - 4pm
Where: Studio K, 407 Arroyo Vista, Manchaca Texas
How: Cost is $250. Materials, tools and a yummy lunch are included.

Tucson Gem and Mineral Show part 2
Parents, if there every was a reason to pull your children out of school, this is it. Fly, drive or piggy-back ride them to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show next February, and they are sure to leave with a new-found curiosity about the world around them. Salomé believes a curious child's thirst for information, experiences and skills will lead him or her on a lifelong journey toward becoming a happily engaged and intelligent adult... just like Paisley.

Tucson Gem and Mineral Show part 1
Starting at the very end of January and running for more than two weeks, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show attracts thousands of buyers, sellers, artists, nature lovers, art collectors, alternative types, Paisley and Salomé. Dozens of separate shows take over the entire city of Tucson and transform it into a funky international scene.
Cheesy hotels turn into bustling showrooms. Glimpse into any open door; beds are piled high with rubies, meteorites, hand made beads, Hill Tribe Silver and carved jade. Parking lots hold wooly mammoth tusks, fully articulated dinosaur skeletons, ethnographic art and man-sized fossils. Huge white tents on show-grounds are filled with purveyors of specialty tools, fine gemstones, carved bone, leather work, and more.

Hot Fresh Poems
Paisley's favorite Saturday morning routine usually involves walking to the Sunset Valley Farmers Market and shopping for delicious organic vegetables, home-made prepared foods, and locally-made objet d'art. Today Salomé treated Paisley to a poem by local "poet for hire" Jena Gessaman.

The Amazing Hancock Brothers T-Shirt Printing Party
In case you weren't invited to one of the Inaugural Balls, don't despair, the social (and arts) related event of the season is happening right here in Austin.
The Print+Addiction T-shirt printing party on January 23rd will feature the art of two of Paisley favorite artists; the The Amazing Hancock Brothers. Ten dollars lets you pull the squeegee on a shirt with as many designs as you like. In the immortal words of Charles Amazing Hancock, "TEN F**KING DOLLARS gets you a limited-edition shirt that YOU truly make one-of-a-kind."
Keep the DIY flame alive and well. Come and get yours! Art, beer, music and t-shirts.

Edgar Allen Poe's Birthday Bash
Jan 19, 2009 marks Edgar Allen Poe's 200th birthday and the city of Baltimore is kicking off a year of festivities to celebrate the dark bard. Go to the Nevermore 2009 website for a list of events which include a tribute by actor John Astin, a five course Poe-themed dinner, a movie showing of The Pit and the Pendulum and a reenactment of a scientific experiment gone awry, (complete with mummy).
Because of a long-standing personal issue with his publicist, Paisley is unable to offer a free ipod wallpaper download of Edgar. However, he is able to offer this painting of his brother Dwight. Little is known about about the younger Poe, except that he died in a freak accident in a lady's hosiery mill and was much more fun at parties. (click on the image above and drag it to your desktop to use as an ipod wallpaper)

Ask the Googly
Dear The Googly,
On January 19th, the National Day of Service, I am doing my part to stop Global Warming. After reading your post of Jan 2, I am quitting my day job to become a pirate. I am finding it difficult however to find the appropriate supplies needed for my new endeavor. Suggestions?
~Mimpi Manis
Dear Mimpi,
One of my favorite Buccaneer Boutiques is the Pirate Supply Store at 826 Valencia in San Francisco. They also have an online store and stock such swarthy staples as designer glass eyes, Scurvy Begone, educational / inspirational posters, and the proverbial bestseller: Mermaid Bait or Repellent.
Established in 2002 by Dave Egger of McSweeney's fame, 826 Valencia is actually a non-profit, that tutors children and teaches them to write. Sales from the store benefit the center which now has many outposts, hopefully coming to a city near you soon. (Be sure to check out the very funny FAQs page)
Yours truly, The Googly

Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival
Paisley and Salomé hurried home to Austin just in time to catch the Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival. The three day event was a surface designer's candy store. Amazing artists from all over the US displayed their talents by displaying photos of past work, selling paintings and other objet d'art, selling and trading flash, and by performing live on humans kind enough to provide dermis tabla rasa.
Here Salomé scores a handpainted vintage purse from Joy of New York Hardcore Tattoos.

Inauguration Nation part 3, Cocktail of Solace
For those readers who have friends still wallowing in post-election depression, Paisley encourages you to reach out this coming January 20th. Dropping by with a homemade bottle of White Russian Comfort on your way to your inauguration party would be a kind way to mend their poor, misguided, broken hearts.
Here's the recipe: Mix 1 part vodka, 1 part Kahlua and 1 part cream. Follow the directions in the January 5, 2009 post to create your customized bottle. Use a fine Sharpie pen to write a comment of your own in the white balloon.
